Observation: Though the energy sector as a whole was finding itself more and more in the public eye for social, environmental and economic impacts of global demand, individual companies and worldwide organizations, such as the World Energy Council, were still reticent to enter the social media landscape in 2010. The high-profile 2010 World Energy Congress, however, was a media opportunity that could not ignore the power of social media for its communication needs.
Issue: The concern expressed by the World Energy Congress organizers was that a social media presence for the sector would become dominated by critics who would use it to attack the industries involved.
Parta’s Intervention: Parta Dialogue launched a multi-stakeholder social media platform on energy named www.energy2point0.com. All players in the energy debate were invited to exchange according to strictly defined rules of engagemement. The platform allowed for the expression of critical views but was balanced enough to be accredited Official Social Media Partner of the 2010 World Energy Congress.
